Our Story

How It All Started

The Harvest started with the aim to provide basic food and necessities to families in need. This passion came about when the Founder, Makala Flickinger, was teaching Sunday School class at a local church in Maryland. She noticed some of the children being bullied by others because of their worn and dirty clothes. After seeking donations from the community, the closet began to overflow. Many people were able to take advantage of the closet and it has since provided clothes to hundreds of families in the community.

In the Fall of 2024, God laid it upon Makala’s heart to start the non-profit which enables the ministry to go out in the community more often.  With the help of amazing volunteers, The Harvest is organizing outreach events located in areas of high foot traffic. During these events, we not only hand out clothes and shoes, but food, water, and prayer are available to those in need. No one should have to dig in trash cans to find a meal or not have a clean set of clothes to wear on the first day of school or work.
